Curriculum for Children’s Ministry and Church Gives Kids a Voice

“When given a choice, kids naturally gravitate toward a curriculum for children’s ministry and church that gives them a voice,” says journalist Carey Kinsolving. In 1995, Kinsolving launched the Children’s Bible Contest to gather material for the newspaper column he planned to write. The winner traveled around the world visiting missionaries and was featured in the Mission Explorers Video Series.

Children's Quotes

After Kinsolving finished producing the series for a division of Thomas Nelson Publishers, he started writing the Kids Talk About God syndicated newspaper column. The best children’s answers featured in Kinsolving’s column have now made their way into an online curriculum for children’s ministry. It’s called the Kids Color Me Bible, and it features children’s art as well.

Children's Art

“Instead of hiring professional artists to illustrate Bible stories, I asked several hundred children to draw art,” says Kinsolving. “It’s a powerhouse combination to read children’s answers to Bible questions and see Bible stories through their eyes.

“This unique children’s ministry resource also empowers children. Each chapter of the online book contains a place for children to write their own answers to the featured question and to draw their own artwork.”

The Kids Color Me Bible may be viewed online and printed without charge. Children can create their own personalized books. Parents and teachers can select lessons from this free, online book to use as curriculum for children’s ministry.

Children's Quotes on Video

Kinsolving and friends have put together an online portfolio of children’s faith expressions in the Kids Click Menu. The Kids Talk About God Kid TV Interviews will entertain and inspire. Most of the 60 streaming TV spots feature children answering questions about God, life and the Bible. In a couple of spots, children sing their favorite hymns. As a children’s ministry resource, the spots can be used to provoke discussions at home or in the classroom.

More Kids' Art

The online portfolio also includes free art prints. The Kids Talk About God Online Art Gallery features the best children’s Bible art from two books and two contests. Kinsolving organized the gallery in the order of the Bible verses the drawings illustrate. Each high-resolution print out contains a 3.5” X 5” and a 4” X 6” print. One can be used as a memory verse card and the other to decorate children’s rooms.

Kids & Missions

The Mission Explorers Video Series has been used in more than 2,500 churches to introduce children to the work of missionaries. The entire series is now streaming as part of the online portfolio Kinsolving calls the Kids Click Menu. This series features the global mission trip of 11-year-old Hillary Welborn. Shot on four continents and two islands, the series shows the work and world of missionaries through Hillary’s eyes.

“It’s one thing for an adult to tell kids about mission work, but another to take them to far away places through the experience of a peer,” says Kinsolving. In the opening sequence, Hillary serves as co-pilot of a small plane flying into a remote area of Africa.

“This is more than a children’s ministry resource, it’s an adventure,” says Kinsolving. “I’ve seen kids sit on the edge of their seats because they are experiencing the mission adventure through Hillary.”
