Lydia Finds Out She Won a Family Vacation to Medicine Bow Lodge in Saratoga, Wyoming.
This morning, Lydia Bird appeared on Fox 59 with her friend Riley Hanagan, one of last years winners of the Childrens International Arts Festival. Lydia thought she was there for an interview mainly about Riley's win of a Medicine Bow Lodge vacation in Saratoga, Wyoming (www.MedicineBowLodge.net). Of course, Lydia brought the art to show that she had drawn for this years online arts festival. What Lydia didnt know is that she had been set up by her friend Riley and her own mother, Monica. Fox 59s Angela Ganote started the interview as expected talking about Rileys winning art and dream vacation at Medicine Bow Lodge. Ganote added to the build up when she said that the odds of someone from the same town winning the same vacation in an international contest were so remote. Then she turned to Riley and said, Should we tell her?

The moment after the surprise announcement, Lydia’s six siblings faced a dilemma. They were standing a few feet from their sister off camera. Their mother had told them to be very quiet, but now they wanted to jump up and down and shout with excitement. The dilemma didn’t last long as Fox 59’s Angela Ganote invited them onto the set to celebrate with their sister.

Lydia received the great news that she'd won from her friend Riley Hanagan, who was one of last year's winners! Lydia will go to the same dude ranch Riley visited last year.

Avon Girl, 12, Wins Dude Ranch Vacation for Family
Fifth of Seven Dude Ranch Vacations To Be Awarded in 2010 Online Festival

Avon, Ind., April 29, 2010 – This morning, Lydia Bird appeared on Fox 59 with her friend Riley Hanagan, one of last year’s winners of the Children’s International Arts Festival. Lydia thought she was there for an interview mainly about Riley’s win of a Medicine Bow Lodge vacation in Saratoga, Wyoming. Of course, Lydia brought the art to show that she had drawn for this year’s online arts festival.

What Lydia didn’t know is that she had been set up by her friend Riley and her own mother, Monica. Fox 59’s Angela Ganote started the interview as expected talking about Riley’s winning art and dream vacation at Medicine Bow Lodge. Ganote added to the build up when she said that the odds of someone from the same town winning the same vacation in an international contest were so remote. Then she turned to Riley and said, “I think you should tell her something.”

At that point, Riley smiled and told Lydia that she had won a week-long vacation for her family at Medicine Bow Lodge, the same dude ranch she visited last year. Thinking that Riley may be kidding, Lydia said, “Really.”

Lydia and the Bird family will enjoy majestic vistas from horseback at 8,500 feet in the Snowy Range of the Rocky Mountains near Saratoga, Wyoming at Medicine Bow Lodge (www.medicinebowlodge.net). The Snowy Range with its alpine terrain is known for the hundreds of lakes, ponds and streams that fill its valleys. On horseback rides, you can see old mining and logging towns.

Lydia drew two pieces of art that illustrated her answers to the following questions: “Why did Jesus heal on the Sabbath? (John 5:1-18).” and “What can we learn from Jesus healing a nobleman's son? (John 4:46-54).” At least one of her drawings will appear in the Kids Color Me Bible Gospel of John at www.KidsTalkAboutGod.org. Winners from the past two years have already been published in the first 12 chapters of the free, online, storybook Bible.

“Lydia’s artwork is exceptional,” said Carey Kinsolving, author, syndicated columnist and founder of the Children’s International Arts Festival. “It’s going to look great in the Kids Color Me Bible Gospel of John.” Lydia’s artwork can be seen at www.KidsTalkAboutGod.org/lydia.

The purpose of the Children’s International Arts Festival is to foster Bible literacy. “Some children become highly motivated to squeeze every ounce of meaning from a Bible text when there is a dude ranch vacation looming just over the horizon,” said Kinsolving. All the information about the online festival can be found at www.KidsTalkAboutGod.org.

The Children's International Arts Festival is sponsored by KidsTalkAboutGod.org and participating dude ranches. Festival organizer Carey Kinsolving writes a weekly Kids Talk About God column, distributed through Creators Syndicate, and has produced a series of popular TV spots for an ABC affiliate that can be seen on the Kids Talk About God website.
