KC-Area Girl, 11, Wins Dude Ranch Family Vacation With Art for Storybook Bible

Olathe, Kan., April 23, 2009 – After 11-year-old Amber Dunn drew and submitted a piece of art for the Children’s International Arts Festival, she prayed that she would win the dude ranch vacation prize. After some reflection about other children who would like to win, she changed her prayer to ask God that the festival judge would have wisdom, said Amber’s mother, Rolanda Dunn.

God answered both of Amber Dunn’s prayers when she received a surprise call on Thursday morning from Coulter Lake Guest Ranch owner Jack Allard in Rifle, Colorado (www.CoulterLake.com). After hearing she had won a Colorado dude ranch vacation for the entire Dunn family of six, she screamed and said “Thank you” and “I’m very excited.”

The Dunn family will enjoy majestic vistas from horseback on rides up to 9,200 feet at the Coulter Lake Guest Ranch nestled in a small mountain valley at 8,100 feet near Rifle, Colorado (www.CoulterLake.com). Situated in the White River National Forest, the ranch is home to incredible natural beauty as well as a wide range of wildlife. Dunn said she had ridden a horse only one time at a friend’s birthday party.

To win the dude ranch vacation, Dunn drew art for an online story book Bible (“Kids Color Me Bible Gospel of John”) that festival organizer Carey Kinsolving plans to write and publish on his website at www.KidsTalkAboutGod.org. Dunn illustrated the question “What does it mean to be born again?” She drew a picture of children raising their arms in celebration as chains fell off their arms. To view her winning art, visit www.KidsTalkAboutGod.org/amber.

Kinsolving says the good news for all Kansas City children is that they can write and draw to win dude ranch family vacations for the summer of 2010. The online festival is ongoing until further notice. Kinsolving says he plans to start announcing 2010 winners this fall. Children can win a family vacation at Coulter Lake Guest Ranch and at least five others, said Kinsolving. There is no entry fee, and all the festival information is available at www.KidsTalkAboutGod.org.

The Children's International Arts Festival is sponsored by KidsTalkAboutGod.org and participating dude ranches. Festival organizer Carey Kinsolving writes a weekly Kids Talk About God column, distributed through Creators Syndicate, and has produced a series of popular TV spots for an ABC affiliate that can be seen on the Kids Talk About God website.
