GLOBAL ARTS FESTIVAL OFFERS KIDS DUDE RANCH VACATIONS AS BIBLE STUDY INCENTIVE

South Padre Island, Texas, April 10, 2008 -- Children all over the world can write and draw to win one of a dozen dude ranch vacations offered as prizes in the Children’s International Arts Festival. Kids ages 5-12 can enter by answering and illustrating Bible-related questions for an online book the festival organizer plans to publish. Each winner may write an essay telling why his or her teacher should win one of the trips.

“These trips are major prizes,” says Carey Kinsolving, organizer of the festival. “Each child winner and immediate family will get to spend a week at a dude ranch, including food, lodging, horseback riding and other activities.”

The Children’s International Arts Festival is sponsored by Kids Talk About God, an online ministry that grew out of Kinsolving’s syndicated column of the same name. He began writing the column after years of writing feature stories for The Washington Post and other newspapers.

Festival entries will be accepted through March 31, 2009. Kinsolving plans to announce some winners before this summer and others before the summer of 2009.

The best children’s writing and art will be published in the “Kids Color Me Bible Gospel of John.” This online storybook Bible will be patterned after Kinsolving’s popular “Kids Color Me Bible.” Each chapter features children’s writing and art. Children who print pages from the free, online book can add their writing and art making each chapter a personalized keepsake.

The first three festival questions are: 1) Why does the Bible call Jesus “the Word” (John 1:1-5)?  2) How does Jesus give light to everyone (John 1:6-13)? 3) What does the Bible mean when it says Jesus was full of grace and truth (John 1:14-18)?

Children who wish to enter the festival can get their parents to download an entry form at www.KidsTalkAboutGod.org. The entry form contains festival guidelines and the address where entries should be mailed. Periodically, new festival questions will be posted on the website and sent to those who want to be notified by email.

“Art is a universal language,” said Kinsolving. “Children have a way of cutting right to the heart of a Bible story when they draw art to illustrate it. Their answers to Bible-related questions can be humorous and insightful. We’re hoping that opportunities to win dude ranch vacations will motivate many children to share their insights while increasing their Bible literacy.”

Of the 12 dude ranches offering vacations as prizes, six are in Colorado and two are in Idaho. The other four are in Montana, Wyoming, Arizona and even east of the Mississippi in upstate New York. All abound with inspiring views, a wide variety of wildlife to observe and photograph, and plenty of horseback riding.

What one dude ranch owner wrote: "You’ll find that good riding, good food and good friends will leave you peaceful and content. You’ll discover the luxuries of silence, the wind on your face and the stars shining brightly.”

George Gallup Promotes Bible Study Through Children’s Intl. Arts Festival
Online Bible Study Program Offers Kids Dude Ranch Vacations

South Padre Island, Texas, May 27, 2008 -- Bible study or the lack thereof has been the focus of many Gallup Polls. George Gallup, Jr. has devoted more than 50 years to conducting Gallup Polls that assess what Americans believe and know about the Bible. In 2003, nearly half of survey respondents (49 percent) reported they believe the Bible has decisive authority over what they say and do, yet only 28 percent said they regularly study the Bible to find direction in life.

“Americans have a reverence for the Bible, but too many of them don’t read it,” said Gallup.

To help close the gap between Bible reverence and reading, Gallup has agreed to serve as honorary chairman of the Children’s International Arts Festival. This global effort started by syndicated columnist Carey Kinsolving encourages children to answer Bible questions and illustrate them for online publication and significant prizes.

“Twelve dude ranch owners have come together to offer family vacations for 12 of our winners,” said Kinsolving. “The best children’s writing and drawing will be published in the ‘Kids Color Bible Gospel of John,’ and the best of the best will ride horses with their families on some of the most beautiful ranches in North America.”

Entry forms can be found at www.KidsTalkAboutGod.org. There is no entry fee. Although entries will be accepted through March 31, 2009, Kinsolving urges immediate action. He says some winners and their families will visit dude ranches this summer.

Kinsolving said he asked Gallup to serve as honorary chairman of the international festival because his polling demonstrates that knowing the Bible and applying it transforms lives and society. “George Gallup is a pioneer who made the spiritual world more tangible,” said Kinsolving. “When he started surveying to explore people’s spiritual lives in the early 1950s, this was virgin territory.”

“A mountain of survey data shows that when educational background and other variables are held constant, persons who are `highly spiritually committed’ are far less likely to engage in antisocial behavior than those less committed,” said Gallup. “They have lower rates of crime, excessive alcohol use, and drug addiction than other groups.

“They are more hopeful about the future and experience greater joy in life. They contribute more time helping people who are burdened with physical and emotional needs. They are less likely to be racist, and are more giving and forgiving.”

A 2002 Gallup poll found that 93 percent of Americans own a Bible. Gallup and Kinsolving want to see the Bible brought out of bookcases and put into the lives of children. They believe the Children’s International Arts Festival featured on the Kids Talk About God website (www.KidsTalkAboutGod.org) is a step in the right direction.

To illustrate the state of Bible illiteracy in America, a 2007 article in USA Today reported that 50 percent of high school seniors think Sodom and Gomorrah were married. In 2000, Gallup reported that fewer than half of Americans can name the first book of the Bible (Genesis), only one-third know who delivered the Sermon on the Mount and one-quarter do not know what is celebrated on Easter.

“I am pleased to serve as honorary chairman of the Children’s International Arts Festival because the festival provides children with incentives to study the Bible,” said Gallup. “Parents and teachers will have a wonderful tool to motivate young people to read, study and think about the Gospel of John.”

Visitors may download art and Bible lessons for free. As a newspaper column, Kids Talk About God has been in syndication for more than seven years. Much of the polling data quoted in this article was research done for the American Bible Society.

Renowned Pollster George Gallup Endorses Children’s International Arts Festival
Dude Ranch Family Vacations Offered As Prizes

South Padre Island, Texas, Nov. 12, 2008 –
Family time can be more rewarding than ever. Children can win dude ranch vacations for their families by reading, writing and drawing for the Children’s International Arts Festival. It’s an online festival where children answer Bible questions and create original art to illustrate their answers. The festival organizer plans to publish the best children’s writing and art in an online storybook Bible.

Pollster George Gallup, Jr. has devoted more than 50 years of polling to assess what Americans believe about God and the Bible. Now, he is using his expertise for the Gallup World Poll, part of which will ask people from more than 140 countries about the role of religion in their lives.

“Because religion is such a powerful motivating force in the world, it is vital to gain an understanding of spiritual underpinnings in every society in nations of all sizes,” said Gallup.

“I am pleased to serve as honorary chairman of the Children’s International Arts Festival because the festival provides children with incentives to study the Bible,” said Gallup. “Parents and teachers will have a wonderful tool to motivate young people to read, study and think about the Gospel of John.”

Winning artwork, writing and videos showcasing previous winners on dude ranches can be viewed at www.KidsTalkAboutGod.org/winners. Art festival instructions and entry forms can be downloaded at www.KidsTalkAboutGod.org. There is no entry fee. Although entries will be accepted through March 31, 2009, festival organizer Carey Kinsolving urges immediate action. He plans to announce some of the eight winners before the March deadline.

Kinsolving plans to publish the best children’s writing and art in an online storybook Bible patterned after the popular Kids Color Me Bible, which is available for free download at www.KidsTalkAboutGod.org.

Kinsolving said he asked Gallup to serve as honorary chairman of the international festival because his polling demonstrates that knowing the Bible and applying it transforms lives and society. “George Gallup is a pioneer who made the spiritual world more tangible,” said Kinsolving. “When he started surveying to explore people’s spiritual lives in the early 1950s, this was new territory.”

They are more hopeful about the future and experience greater joy in life.

“This past summer, four children won dude ranch vacations for their families,” said festival organizer and syndicated columnist Carey Kinsolving. “Eight more vacations will be awarded for 2009. The winners and their families will get to be cowboys and cowgirls in some of the most pristine landscapes the great American West has to offer.”
