Children’s International Arts Festival Guidelines & Disclosures
Attention: As of April 1, 2010, prizes for 2011 have not been secured. We can only offer the opportunity to be published in the Kids Color Me Bible Gospel of John and the Kids Talk About God syndicated newspaper column. If prizes are secured, all entries postmarked after March 31, 2010 will be eligible for prizes and all festival guidelines listed on the Festival Update page will apply. In some situations, sponsors may designate prizes for children who live in specific geographical areas.
1. Eligibility: Children ages 5-12 may enter the arts festival by answering questions and drawing art to illustrate their answers for the Kids Color Me Bible Gospel of John. There is no entry fee. Children from any country may enter the arts festival. Artwork may also appear in the Kids Talk About God Online Art Gallery. Children’s answers could appear in the Kids Talk About God syndicated newspaper column.
2. Prizes: Kids Talk About God (KTAG) will do its best to secure prizes from reputable companies and sponsors. Prizes will be awarded at the sole discretion of Kids Talk About God staff and sponsors. Vacation prize packages may have time limits as to when they can be used. The number of immediate family members who can accompany a festival winner on a vacation package is limited. In most cases, no more than four or five, including the winner, may be accommodated. Every child whose writing or art is selected for publication will not receive a prize. Prizes will be given as they become available. Winners’ families are responsible for their own transportation to and from a vacation destination. Any taxes assessed on the value of the prize will be the sole responsibility of the winning family. Please discuss with your tax advisor.
3. Publicity: KTAG wants to generate public goodwill for the companies and sponsors who give arts festival prizes. Winners and their families are expected to work with Kids Talk About God in this effort. For example, the family of a child who wins a vacation package will be asked to take pictures and write about the vacation and possibly appear in a video. This material could appear in newspapers and on the web pages designated for Children’s International Arts Festival on the KTAG website.
4. Liability: KTAG will do its best to present each prize as sponsors represent it to us. If the prize is a service such as a vacation package, KTAG must rely on promises in writing from sponsors. If a sponsor fails to provide a promised prize, we will exclude that sponsor from any further participation in the arts festival. If this unfortunate event occurs, the prize recipient agrees to hold KTAG harmless from any damages and legal action. Furthermore, prize winners and their families agree to hold KTAG and sponsors harmless from injury resulting from any activities associated with prizes received through the Children’s International Arts Festival.
5. Rights: All artwork and writing submitted for the Children’s International Arts Festival will be considered the property of Carey Kinsolving and Kids Talk About God. Due to the high cost of postage and handling, artwork and writing will not be returned.
6. Mailing Address & Deadline: The Children’s International Arts Festival is ongoing until further notice. Prizes will be given periodically rather than all at once. New questions will be released as answers and art are received for current ones. Sign up for the Festival Update newsletter at www.KidsTalkAboutGod.org/update. Please mail all art and writing entries to CIAF, P.O. Box 3846, South Padre Island, TX 78597.
7. Writing: All writing entries must be submitted in English with the child's name and age printed on the entry. Children ages 5 and 6 may speak their answers to someone who can write them. Please don’t coach. From younger children, we’re looking for childlike answers, not necessarily correct answers. Although all art will be reviewed by KTAG staff, writing will be reviewed on an as needed basis. When author Carey Kinsolving has received enough good answers to a question, he will focus his attention on the next question for the Kids Color Me Bible Gospel of John. New questions will be released on the Festival Update web page and in the Festival Update email newsletter available on the KTAG website.
8. Art: All art must be submitted on thick, white 8.5” X 11” paper. Please DO NOT FOLD the art. Child artists may use colored (felt-tip) markers, watercolor or paint. Please do NOT use colored pencils or crayons. Artwork may contain writing such as titles, Scripture verses, word balloons or dialog boxes of quotes as seen in most cartoons. The child’s name, age, affiliated church or Christian school (if any) and parental/guardian contact information should be printed on the back of the art in pencil. Art must be a wholly original work by the child entrant: NO tracing, copying or imitating of other artists is allowed. The whole idea is to have the artwork be a true, pure expression from the imagination of the child, rather than an imitation of grown-up art.
